Crocodopolis seeks to create awareness for the dramatic situation of crocodile exploitation and threats to global extinction. Taking cue from the diminishing crocodile populations at Lake Nasser and uncovering the context, systems and mechanisms that lead to this tragic development, the film searches to alter this trajectory. We seek to create recognition for the dramatic situation in governing bodies in Egypt and audiences both locally and globally. The most immediate goal is transmission of information about the importance of crocodile protection among the residing communities as well as creating political pressure to alter policies for crocodile protection on a state level. Secondly, the film seeks to create support to build a new economic model that does not center on the exploitation of the lake’s ancient organisms but transforms the lake economy towards a sustainable future through ecotourism.
ACTIVITIES
EVENTS & WORKSHOPS
We believe that engaging local communities is key to fostering long-term conservation efforts. Through interactive discussions, screenings, and expert-led workshops, Crocodopolis will create a space for dialogue on wildlife conservation and the role of crocodiles in the ecosystem of Lake Nasser (Aswan). These events will bridge the gap between conservation activists and the public to promote sustainable coexistence.
SCHOOL TRIPS
Educating younger generations is crucial for lasting impact. By organizing school trips to conservation sites and hosting interactive sessions, students will gain firsthand knowledge of crocodiles’ ecological importance. This initiative will be organized in collaboration with Dayma Journeys aiming to inspire youth to become future advocates for wildlife protection.
FILM SCREENINGS
Beyond festivals, we will host community screenings around Lake Nasser, partnering with local NGOs and conservation groups to engage residents in discussions about crocodile protection and sustainable economic alternatives
We are aiming to collaborate with national and international schools in Egypt in order to screen our film to the students followed by a discussion with them in order to raise awareness of the younger generations.
